About the event
The Sew Sustainable Workshop Series is a hands-on sewing program that introduces students to sustainability through creative, practical projects. Each workshop begins with a short guided discussion about an environmental topic such as reducing plastic waste, repurposing materials, and minimizing textile waste. Students complete a quick interactive worksheet to stay engaged, then apply what they learned by sewing an eco-friendly project.
Throughout the series, students explore how small choices like using reusable bags, repurposing clothing, and avoiding single-use plastics,
can help protect the environment while learning foundational sewing skills.
Projects in the series include:
Reusable tote bag with natural plant-based dyes made from food scraps
Drawstring produce pouch with upcycled t-shirt string ties to reduce plastic produce bags
