About the event
This beginner-friendly Fashion Design & Sewing program combines creative fashion design instruction with hands-on sewing. Each session gives beginner sewists the opportunity to learn a fashion design principle, develop their own project idea, and then bring that design to life using a sewing machine.
The first 20–30 minutes of each session will focus on a fashion design concept and guided sketching. Beginner sewists will learn how designers use elements and principles of design such as color, proportion, pattern, emphasis, and more to make intentional design choices. They will then sketch and plan the project they will create during the session.
For the remaining hour, beginner sewists will transition from the sketchbook to the sewing machine. With guidance and instruction, they will learn how to construct their project while practicing basic sewing techniques, working with fabric, and making creative decisions along the way.
